The puppy that modules: what to do?

Your puppy Morville and you do not know what to do? You will find all the answers to your questions here as well as the consequences of this behaviour, if you do not act quickly.

Why does my puppy need to nibble?

First, know that a puppy needs to nibble to calm down, on the one hand, and to find out what surrounds him, on the other hand. Like children who put everything they find in the mouth, puppies bite to discover their environment.

It is also a reflex they keep from their first weeks of life with their siblings. The canine “games” were finally sessions of jostling, bite numbers and barres. How could they understand that once they arrived in their new family, these gaming sessions are no longer acceptable? It is, therefore, full-fledged learning (as well as learning cleanliness or on leash) that you have to instil in your puppy upon you arrived at home.

For adult dogs, biting is a need, just like running, eating and drinking. The masticatory expense is essential for a dog, so we must not try to prevent a dog from biting but rather allow him to bite suitable objects and provided for this purpose.

My dog bites hands, feet, furniture: what to do?

When a puppy or dog starts biting everything and anything, it’s very unpleasant because it hurts (to the feet and hands) or it deteriorates the objects and furniture of the house.

It is, therefore, necessary to offer your puppy or dog an alternative, a means of nicking that is acceptable and even encouraged.

To do this :

Regularly propose toys of occupation and chewing to your pet,

Do not leave these toys all the time available, because otherwise, they will lose their “value” in his eyes,

Choose specific moments, especially when you feel that your dog needs an occupation, and introduce the beginning and end of the masticatory activity,

Privilege quality toys and strong enough (so avoid the fluff) to prevent your dog from driving pieces or pass, shows in hand, 2 seconds to “take care”.

These tips are valid for “preventing” numbers, but when your puppy or dog is biting you, here is the attitude you need to adopt.

As soon as your pet bites your hand, the foot or even if it is only biting your clothes, push a little cry like “Ouch”, then move away and ignore your dog completely.

To ignore your dog correctly: Do not talk to him, do not touch it and do not look at it. Clearly, turn it on her back and even change room if needed. Your dog will understand that the attitude he has adopted engenders something he hates to be found alone.

Repeat this as soon as your puppy or dog bites you but especially if you do not bite you, reward it warmly. Show him that when he is calm and sweet, he gets all your attention. On the other hand, as soon as he gets excited and begins to bite you: the social interaction is over, you leave!

Mistakes not to commit

Above all, when your puppy or dog starts biting you, the worst mistake to commit is to let it do; we will see later why.

In the meantime, here is the list of small mistakes that are sometimes done without even realizing it, and it would be better not to commit in the future:

Play with his puppy or dog without toys (just with hands and body). It can be a good way to play but only when your dog has acquired self-checks and lost the habit of biting you.

Take systematic attention to his dog when he begins to bite us. This only reinforces the bad behaviour of your dog because it understands that by biting you, it gets all your attention. Without letting it do, think about the method evoked previously: cry + ignorance!

Punish his dog after a blow as a result of the destruction caused by numbers. This makes no sense for your dog and will only decindictib to you.

Type your dog when he starts to nibble. Violence and brutality have never solved anything. This attitude breaks the trust created between you and your dog.

How old is a puppy modal?

There is not really age defined so that a puppy stops biting. It will not stop doing it only if you take things in hand and especially that you take the time to teach it not to do it!

Although it is mainly a juvenile reflex that can endeavour with time, if you do not adopt a clear and coherent attitude, your dog, even an adult, will have no reason to stop biting. Because here, time does not solve everything; on the contrary, it can even aggravate the situation if no measure is taken.

Hence the importance of limiting numbers very early and redirecting them to toys provided for this purpose.

The risks if we do not stop the numbers quickly

An adult dog that we left bitten everything and anything is a dog that will not have learned an essential notion in education, namely: self-controls.

If no limit is fixed, your dog can quickly become dangerous, for you, for your children if you have, for all the people he will cross but also for his congeners.

It is important to act at the youngest age of the puppy so that he learns to control the strength of his jaw; otherwise, dramatic consequences could happen.

On the other hand, if you do not stop the numbers quickly, you can make a cross on your furniture, and even if you redeem a new sofa, a new table or new chairs, your dog will not make the difference.

Then, finally, know that it is much easier to forbid something to a puppy directly learning the good manners rather than trying to remove bad behaviour, installed for a long time, by another more acceptable to an Adult dog already conditioned.
