Why is it important to give rapeseed oil to a dog fed with a household ration?
What are the benefits of rapeseed oil?
Rapeseed oil is a vegetable oil that is obtained by the trituration of rapeseed seeds, this annual yellow flower plant of the Brassicaceae family.
Rapeseed oil contains:
mono acids monounsaturated, and in particular 61 to 63% oleic acid, belonging to the omega-9 family,
Polyunsaturated fatty acids, 19% to 20% linoleic acid of the omega-6 and 8 to 10% alpha acid, of the family of omega-3,
About 8% palmitic and stearic acids, saturated fatty acids.
This composition makes rapeseed oil a balanced oil in omega-3 and 6. It thus brings the dogs essential fatty acids in good proportions.
These fatty acids are so-called essential because they are absolutely necessary for normal growth and the smooth running of the physiological functions of the body.
When and how to give rapeseed oil to a dog?
It is useful to give rapeseed oil to a dog fed with a household ration to balance its essential fatty acid ratio and, especially, in omega-3.
The quantities of rapeseed oil to be distributed to a dog must be calculated on a case-by-case basis, depending on the nutritional and energy needs of the dog.

The rapeseed oil must be given raw to the dog so as not to denature its precious polyunsaturated fatty acids. The rapeseed oil must also be well preserved, protected from light and heat (and ideally in the refrigerator) so that it does not oxidize. An oxidized oil can cause digestive discomfort and diarrhoea episodes in your pet. It can also give a very unpleasant smell to its food and bring it back to eat.
Does rapeseed oil replace fish oil?
No, rapeseed oil does not replace fish oil because it does not bring the same omega-3 that the same.
Unlike rapeseed oil, fish oil contains eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), fatty acids of the omega-3 family. The organism of the dog does not very well synthesize these two fatty acids, so that it is better to bring them to his diet.
In a dog fed with a household ration, so it is useful to bring both rapeseed oil daily and fish oil, three times a week at least.
